Across The Universe
"This is one of my favorite songs, but its been issued in so many forms that its missed it as a record. I gave it first to the World Wild Life Fund, but they didn't do much with it, and then we put it on the Let It Be Album." John Lennon
Words are flowing out
Like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away, across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
Are drifting through my open mind
Possessing and caressing me
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light
which dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on, across the universe
Thoughts meander
Like a restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly
As they make their way, across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Sounds of laughter, shades of joy
Are ringing through my open ears
Inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love
Which shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on, across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva
The inspiration for this song came when John woke up at 7 o'clock in the morning with the word 'pools of sorrow, waves of joy' spinning around in his head. He couldn't get back to sleep and began writing this song. The first version was produced by George Martin on 4 February, 1968. During the session it was decided that some female voices were needed to sing the line 'Nothing's going to change my world'. Paul found two girls standing in the rain outside the studio and brought them in on the session. They were sixteen-year-old Lizzie Bravo from Brazil and seventeen-year-old Gayleen Pease from London. The two were asked to sing the line over and over again.
