Rain
Released as the fip side of "Paperback Writer" in June 1966.
If the rain comes
They run and hide their heads
They might as well be dead
If the rain comes
If the rain comes
When the sun shines
They slip into the shade
And sip their lemonade
When the sun shines
When the sun shines
Rain...I don't mind
Shine...The weather's fine
I can show you
That when it starts to rain
Everything is the same
I can show you
I can show you
Rain...I don't mind
Shine...The weather's fine
Can you hear me
That when it rains and shines
It's just a state of mind
Can you hear me?
Can you hear me?
"On the end of 'Rain' you hear me singing it backwards. We'd done the main thing at EMI and the habit was to then take the song home and see what you thought a little extra gimmick or what the guitar piece would do. So I got home about five in the morning, stoned out of me head, I staggered up to me tape recorder and put it on, but it came out backwards, and I was in a trance in the earphones, what is it, what is it. It's too much, you know, and I really wanted the whole song backwards almost, and that was it. So we tagged it on the end. I just happened to have the tape on the wrong way, it just came out backwards, it just blew me mind. The voice sounds like an old Indian."
